Adoption Counselling in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Emma trained in Adoption Counselling in 2014 with Barnardo’s, who are a Registered Adoption Agency. All Counsellors who work with clients who are adopted or where adoption is the key issue in the counselling work must be registered with an adoption agency such as Barnardo's or the counsellor should be Registered with Ofsted individually. The Individual (Adoptee)
Adoption counselling is for anyone who has been affected by adoption in someway:
Members of the birth parents family
Adopted parents (Adopters)
Members of the adopted family
Anyone who has been affected by adoption in someway regardless of the length of time that has elapsed since the adoption took place can attend adoption counselling.
Independent specialist agencies and therapists in private practice may also provide privately funded work for parents, children and adoptive families and so may need to register with the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) as adoption support agencies (this is explained later in this section), but there are legal safeguards that apply here. Therapists providing adoption support services including counselling should consider whether they first need to register with Ofsted as an adoption support agency. It is not lawful for a counselling practitioner to provide adoption support services, including counselling, in their private practice, if they are not either a registered Adoption Support Agency, or working under a contract of services with one.
